Trump is patient, Trump is kind…

This might be categorized as another Trump rant, so if you’re not into that sort of thing, read something else. Nothing to see here.

I am going to take exception with some illogical BS.

The long and short of it is this…A lot of Christian people voted for the Donald, and I’m going to call it like I see it: voting for Trump was perhaps the most un-Christian thing you could have done.

You voted for him because you worry about the courts, because you worry about the prevalence of abortions in a post-Roe v. Wade world. You voted for him because he says he’s changed. Hey, people change, and as a Christian, you can’t remove the splinter in another’s eye when there’s a plank in yours. You voted for him because Hillary Clinton is not your cup of tea for whatever reason (she’s dishonest, she’s a career politician, she’s a woman, she’s a Clinton, she’s a Democrat, etc.). You voted for him because your pastor advised it and you prayed about it.trump

If it’s not clear yet, it will become clear. You voted for an unrepentant, uncaring, un-Christlike, wicked man of the world.

You worship a God who commanded that you have no other gods before Him, and who told you to give up your possessions and follow Him. But you voted for a person for whom money and power are his gods.  Your God would have certainly overturned Trump’s table along with those of all the other moneychangers in the temple.

You worship a God who ordered you to love Him and to love your neighbor as yourself – indeed, “there’s no greater commandment than these.” But you voted for a person whose main promises were to build a wall to keep the Mexicans out and to ban all Muslims from America.

You worship a God who sanctified marriage as a holy commitment. But you voted for a man who has publicly cheated on his spouses and ended two marriages and is on his third…a woman to whom he was married while he made despicable, bragging remarks about his carousing ways to Billy Bush on the Access Hollywood bus.

You worship a God who sacrificed his own life to save yours, who said “greater love has no man than to lay down his life for his friends.” But you voted for a man who found a way around the draft multiple times, only to later state that Senator John McCain (a POW for 5 years in Vietnam) wasn’t a war hero because he was captured.

You worship a God who prayed for the forgiveness of his murderers as they were literally murdering him, who told you to turn the other cheek, and who ordered you to forgive seventy times seven. But you voted for a man to rise to the ultimate seat of power on the planet, and he literally cannot let a single shady tweet go unanswered.

You worship a God who told you that if you hold a banquet, skip inviting the wealthy and powerful and instead invite the poor and you’ll be repaid at the Resurrection. Your God tells you “blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.” Your Scriptures asked “If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?” But then you elected a man who promises to dismantle social programs aimed at the poorest people in our nation. You cheered for a man who saw the war-weary Syrian refugees as an easy scapegoat to help elevate his own status.

I can go on and on and on, but here’s my biggest point of cognitive dissonance: you cannot look me in the eye and rationally tell me that Donald Trump would be the choice that Jesus Christ – the Prince of Peace, God’s Word made flesh, love in human form – would make if he were present physically in this nation. Mr. Trump proves himself over and over to be the antithesis of what a Christlike person strives to be…and he was doing that publicly and loudly for many years before he was elected by this nation. He is plainly “unequally yoked” to those of your faith, yet you of light have elevated someone of darkness to the throne.

I read something once that said that if you took the word “love” out of 1 Corinthians 13:4 (the “love is patient, love is kind” verse) and replaced it with your would-be spouse’s name, it should make total sense…and if it doesn’t, you should reconsider hitching your wagon to this person.

Let’s try it with our soon-to-be president:

“Donald Trump is patient, Donald Trump is kind. He does not envy, he does not boast, he is not proud.  He does not dishonor others, he is not self-seeking, he is not easily angered, he keeps no record of wrongs.”

If that just sounded as utterly ridiculous and false to you as it did to me, I’ll ask you – why did you help hitch OUR wagon to this guy?

Before you get defensive – (a) turn the other cheek and (b) educate me if you think I’m wrong. I don’t think I’m wrong (clearly, that’s why I said it). I think most Christians’ pride is too fierce to allow them to reconcile their own prejudices, biases and hatred of others with their religion of peace, love, tolerance, and forgiveness. I wish one of you would prove me wrong.

I could give you more ridiculous defenses I’ve heard, but my brain can’t handle the internal conflict of wanting to laugh and wanting to punch myself in the face!

    • Hi Randelle! Thanks for reading my stuff! I’m blown away at the dissonance that people spew with a straight face. He’s not conservative, he’s not a Republican, he’s not (at least not by his actions) a Christian, yet all of these yahoos who consider themselves all of those things are head over heels for Donnie. It’s a cult of personality. It’s no longer about ideals, it’s about getting in line behind whatever the leader says…even when he says indefensible shit. Lots of folks are going to end up on the wrong side of history, it seems.

    • Well thank you, Mimi! I am glad you liked it. This wasn’t one of my funnier pieces, but I think it was fairly well on point. I hope you’ll take a peek around my blog and find some other good posts to read. If you don’t, just sneak out the back door and promise not to tell everyone that I’m lame.
